Shireen Huq is a leading women’s rights activist and a relentless advocate for justice, democracy, and accountability. As the co-founder of Naripokkho, she has been at the forefront of the fight for gender equality and women’s empowerment in Bangladesh since 1983, working on issues ranging from women’s political representation to survivors’ rights and gender-based violence.

Her career spans impactful work in human rights, social justice, and international development, including significant initiatives supporting the Rohingya community and marginalized groups. She has also played an influential role in policy reforms and grassroots activism, amplifying the voices of women across Bangladesh.

Shireen has served with the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and is a Trustee Board Member of Gono Bishwabidyalay, contributing to the advancement of education and social progress. Following the fall of the Awami League government, she was among the first to inspect the Aynaghor detention facility, shedding light on its operations. Recognized for her lifelong commitment to women’s rights, she was appointed Chairperson of the Women Affairs Reform Commission under the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, where she continues to drive transformative policies for gender equality and social justice.

Her fearless activism and unwavering commitment to justice remain an inspiration, shaping a more equitable and accountable future for Bangladesh.
