Mohammed Mia

Mohammed is a key organizer of the Bangladeshi diaspora community, advocating for democracy, citizen rights, and economic empowerment for over two decades. As a co-founder and driving force behind the US-Bangladesh United Initiative (UBUI), he is committed to strengthening U.S.-Bangladesh relations and fostering opportunities for the Bangladeshi-American community.

His political experience includes serving as Campaign Manager for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the 2008 National Parliament Election, leading strategy and voter outreach. Beyond politics, Mohammed is a seasoned investment professional, having held senior roles at top financial institutions, including Vice President at OIC, Director and Head of Structuring at Uniper, and Vice President at Citi Group. He also contributed to cutting-edge research as a faculty member at Columbia University and Purdue University.

With a deep passion for finance, innovation, and economic growth, Mohammed dreams of taking the first Bangladeshi company public on the New York Stock Exchange, setting a historic milestone for Bangladesh’s global business presence.

Outside of his professional and political pursuits, Mohammed is a gifted musician, vocalist, and guitarist, leading Houston Jam Sessions, a band that brings together talented musicians in the community. His passion for music reflects his creative spirit and ability to unite people, whether through melodies or movements.

A dedicated community leader and advocate, he continues to champion political rights, civic engagement, and economic transformation, shaping a stronger future for both Bangladesh and its diaspora.
